How has the .uk stock evolved?
Historically the .uk market was dominated by sub-extensions .co.uk (commercial), .org.uk and .me.uk. In June 2014 Nominet opened direct registration at the second level (short .uk), creating two parallel markets.
Nominet publishes statistics in two columns: Third-level (.co.uk + other legacy) and Second-level (.uk direct). The combined total represents full DUM (Domains Under Management).
The .uk market is mature: growth has slowed since 2018, the stock oscillates between 10 and 11 million domains. Monthly net change reflects creations minus deletions, not published separately by Nominet.

What is the historic peak of .uk?
The .uk stock reached its maximum around 2017-2018 with over 12 million domains, before slightly declining with post-Brexit consolidation and the end of certain promotional campaigns.
