How has the .uk stock evolved?
Historically the .uk market was dominated by sub-extensions .co.uk (commercial), .org.uk and .me.uk. In June 2014 Nominet opened direct registration at the second level (short .uk), creating two parallel markets.
Nominet publishes statistics in two columns: Third-level (.co.uk + other legacy) and Second-level (.uk direct). The combined total represents full DUM (Domains Under Management).
The .uk market is mature: growth has slowed since 2018, the stock oscillates between 10 and 11 million domains. Monthly net change reflects creations minus deletions, not published separately by Nominet.

Why doesn't Nominet publish creations/deletions separately?
Nominet publishes only monthly DUM totals. Detailed flows (creations, deletions, renewals) are not in the public open data.
